Accessories for accessories

I am at a bit of an impasse with the granny square bags that have (for the moment) taken over my crochet.

On the one hand I have a clear vision of what I want them to be, but I don’t really see how to get it done other than to do it. But since I don’t exactly know what it is I need to do to create my vision, I am lurching along from one step to the next.

After choosing the linings for each of three bags, I decided would make accessories for each of the bags, and I decided to start with what is for me a go-to item: a coffee cup cozy.

Using the pattern I devised to coordinate with a then favorite pair of fingerless gloves, I got out my 4.5 mm hook and a partial skein of CraftSmart sangria.

After a couple of crochet missteps (I worked two rows of the pattern through both loops instead of the back loop only before realizing my error), and had made substantive progress on my first effort:

and in very short order, I had it all done and was able to get this photo of it with its coordinating bag-to-be:

From there I got out my Red Heart Classic star brights print. This time I got my stitches right from the get go, and there was little, if anything, that needed to be frogged:

I then got out some Red Heart Super Saver cherry cola which is my current go-to-for-everything yarn, and turned out my third (and final) coffee cup cozy of the day:

and before putting everything up, I got this photo of the three coffee cup cozies lounging in the late afternoon of a mid-autumn day:

Not every crochet adventure I find myself called to is straightforward. Sometimes the journey has twists that I do not expect, but I continue to move forward, one stitch at a time.
