Crochet and the life-time continuum

Despite having done a lot of decluttering and destashing over the past few weeks, it would seem I am no where near done.

Complicating things is this truth: the world has not stopped while I wrestle my abundance of belongings.

Life, it turns out, does go on, and one aspect of the life-time continuum is that new babies are born everyday. Most recently a friend from high school welcomed a new cousin into the world, and I — of course — offered to crochet something for the baby.

I decided to go with my fallback baby crochet welcome gift of a munchkin hat:

Using some of my recently unearthed Red Heart Super Saver piñata stash:

I set out to get started on this new crochet adventure.

The only thing stopping me?

I had no idea where I had put my crochet hooks.

In the hustle and bustle of moving out, decluttering, and moving into new living quarters, I had put the hooks in a “safe place.” A little too safe, in fact.

However, just as I was about to give up and go buy a hook, my eyes landed on the orange monster zipper case where I keep my set of traveling hooks:

In short order, I was in business.

After a bazillion trips up and down stairs toting boxes with things I would have happily tossed had I realized their psychic weight, it felt wonderful to have a crochet hook in my hand again.

Working from color memory and lamplight, I paired the piñata with CraftSmart Value fuchsia, and when I saw it in daylight:

I was pleased, and continued on my merry way. I even managed to finish the hat before dinner:

There are a few ends to weave in, and I think this particular hat really does call for a little “je ne said quoi” to complete it, but after so much moving and so little crochet, it feels very good to once again be moving forward, one stitch at a time.
