Today I traveled to (and from) the metropolis of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, to hear the genealogist, Mark Lowe’s, lecture “Farmhouse, Meeting House, Court House: Breathing Life into Your Family’s Story.”

My husband drove us to North Wilkesboro, so rather than taking the Afghan-that-has-eluded-me and all of the attendant yarns and squares, I took two skeins of Lion Brand Homespun yarn and a pattern for prayer shawl that is available at no charge at lionbrandyarn.com, so that I could get a start on yet another project.

While there are several patterns to choose from, I went with the Tranquil Comfort Shawl. Because I tend to crochet loosely, I used a J rather than a K hook. I got a good start on the shawl while getting to the lecture, and made reasonable progress during the lecture which was, as it happens, both informative and educational.
