Square 88

Amid the hubbub of activity that is my life at the moment, I was able to sit down for a few minutes today and complete Square 88 from Jean Leinhauser’s book, 101 Crochet Squares, for crochet-along that I am a part of. My thinking was that even if did not get caught up, I was at least preventing myself from getting further behind.

I started by consulting the Coats and Clark Multicolor Coordinate List. I had initially wanted to use the Pink Camouflage color with the coordinating colors of Light Raspberry and Café, but I was unable to locate any of the Light Raspberry in my sizable Red Heart stash, so I instead used the French Country with the coordinating colors of Delft and the recently released Lemon.

I started by making a Lemon center:

and then added a round of French Country:

followed by a single crochet border done in Delft:

Pleased with the result, but curious as to what difference the order of the colors used made to the appearance, I then made a blue center:

and then finished with a border of the Lemon:

I then laid the squares out to get an idea of how the alternating colors might be used to greater effect in a larger project:

I am enjoying working these squares and exploring the ways to use variegated yarns and coordinating colors, and can hardly wait to see what tomorrow brings.
