Twenty-five seven-inch crochet squares

This past weekend when I was not working on bringing order to the chaos that is my crochet empire, I was working on rehabbing an assortment of squares so that they would each measured seven-inches across.

My hope is that when the time to join them arrives, there will be at least a semblance of order, and except for my usual color indecision, it will proceed relatively smoothly.

Yesterday I worked on three squares:

crochetbug, crochet, crochet afghan, crochet squares, 101 crochet squares, jean leinhauser, project amigo, crochet afghan, crochet blanket, crochet throw, crochet flower

The one on the left was not perfectly easy, but the changes required were reasonable, and I made reasonable progress on them. The middle square took awhile because of the number of stitches, but was otherwise unremarkable. The square on the far right took forever. The center of the square is very round, and the original squaring off was an odd combination of subtly abrupt that resulted in a wavy edge that resisted straightening. But I have learned that with many things in life, if you are stubborn enough to just keep trying, sometimes you will find a solution, and eventually, I got close enough.

Today, I identified three more squares that needed some crochet rehab:

The one on the far left is waiting to be completed as I needed to find more Red Heart Super Saver lavender yarn before I could finish that square, but I had Red Heart Super Saver lemon within easy reach and was able to finish rehabbing the middle square in short order, while for the one on the right I just went with shocking pink and another round of double crochet granny shells followed by a round of single crochet.

With these efforts and others, in no time, I had twenty-five squares ready for a late afternoon pre-snow storm photo:

I’m not entirely certain what I think of this most recent layout. Part of me would like to work as I have on previous projects with panels of squares which I then join to each other, but there is still a lot of work to be done in my crochet empire, and as I search for more squares for this project, I have time to think about how, once I assemble all of the pieces, I will put them together, and until then I will work one stitch at a time.

  1. Oh, how I envy the person that will receive the blanket made from these squares! The joyous cacophony of colors and patterns reminds me of your many crochet adventures!

  2. The initial view of your squares seemed as if there would be no possible way to use them together, however the last picture of the squares all together looks great! Nice project!

  3. Have been looking for a pattern for one of the squares…. it is the bottom left purple green blue yellow orange with the X across the square. Love that design. Where can I find that pattetn
