Having finished the African Flower hexagon pet mat, I decided that today would be an excellent day to clean my kitchen, run some errands, and complete at least one square from the 101 Crochet Squares crochet-a-long of which I am a member so that even if I didn’t get caught up, at least I wouldn’t get any further behind.
So once the dishwasher was loaded, counters wiped down, and the floor vacuumed and cleaned, I was ready to set aside my cleaning gear and get in the car and run errands.
The timing of my errands couldn’t have been better. I not only got everything done that needed doing, I got home ten minutes before the skies over my house opened up and began dumping buckets of water, and for me, a rainy afternoon (even if the rain is sporadic) is an invitation to crochet.
Not one to turn down an invitation to crochet (even if it is an imaginary one from the weather) I got out my copy of Jean Leinhauser’s 101 Crochet Squares, lookied over the squares for which I am in arrears, so to speak, and decided to work on Square 81.
The square started with a few single crochet stitches separating four rather large chain loops:
The next round was comprised of half-double crochet stitches and a somewhat larger loop:
Rounds three, four, and five were comprised of double crochet stitches and chain loops of the same size as was made in round two:
After completing round five, it was time to loop the loops through each other:
and then crochet a final round composed of double and half-double crochet stitches:
I really enjoyed making this square, and think there is a lot of exploration yet to do with color and the effect of color on the texture of the chain loops.
I can hardly wait!
