I came across this delightful design in a box of crochet remnants that were sent to be by a reader.
I have tried just about every granny square pattern that has crossed my path, but I had not seen this particular design. Here is how it looks after four rounds:

and since I can’t imagine you won’t be as tempted to try making one as I was, here is a written pattern you can use to give it a whirl.
For this particular effort I used a 3.75 mm hook and DK weight yarn, but you can use any yarn and hook combination that gives you the drape (or lack thereof) that you want.
Ch 4; join with a slip st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in ring, [ch 2, 3 dc in ring], 3 times; ch 1, sc in top of ch-3 to join and form last space.
Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc over sc, ch 2 [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space] 3 times, 3 dc in same sp as first 2 dc, (ch 1, sc in top of ch-3 to join and form last space.
Round 3: Ch 3, 2 dc over sc, ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp] 3 times, dc in same sp as first 2 dc, ch 1, sc in top of ch-3 to join and form last space.
Round 4: Ch 3, 2 dc over sc, (ch 2, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp) twice, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space, (3 dc in next ch-2 sp) twice] 3 times, dc in same sp as first 2 dc, ch 2 and join with a slip st in top of ch-3 to join and form last space. Fasten off.
I hope you find this granny square as delightful as I have.
