Hopping down the crochet bunny trail

The other day I found an adorable crochet bunny pattern that I was helpless to resist.

When I made the first half of the bunny, it was very cute, but larger than I had expected, and as I wanted to make two cat toy crochet bunnies, I could see that I was going to need to revise the pattern.

So I ended up going down yet another crochet bunny trail, and I got out a notebook with graph paper, outlined the stitches of the bunny I had just made, then did some math and devised a pattern for a crochet bunny that was about 40% smaller and just the right size for a cat toy:

Once I had those pieces done, I not quite ready to do the work involved in seaming and stuffing the cat toy bunny, so I indulged myself in yet another crochet Easter confection — a crochet bunny basket, the pattern for which showed up while I was looking to re-find the bunny pattern I had been working from.

Using gray and pink yarn in my stash, I got the basket done quickly, but I decided to crochet a Romanian point lace cord for the handle. I love this technique, but use it so infrequently, I tend to forget the particulars from one time to the next, so using this video tutorial, I got the cord, and all of the other pieces of the basket, done:

Which meant I was ready to move on to transform the crochet remnants from purposelessness to purposefulness.

And it went reasonably well, except that I a) didn’t get them all done, and b) managed to lose yet another remnant, which, I’m happy to report, I found after putting away all of my crochet work:

Which brings me back to where I started — the pink bunny I was working on as of my last blog post. Resisting the temptation to work the second half in another color, I worked the second half of the bunny, and finished before sunset:

Which gave me just enough time to get this photo of my assorted crochet Easter projects:

Sometimes, it’s possible to travel life in a straight line, but sometimes, you have to make detours that take you wherever the crochet bunny trail leads you.
