Yesterday and today I continued my efforts to make the pieces needed for my 2012 North Carolina State Fair project.

Because of recent and persistent clouds and rain, I have used most of my crochet time e on crocheting the single-color pieces (both the larger triangle and larger squares) as there are no color decisions to be made other than “what color will this piece be?”

Today, however, with what remained of the daylight, I finished this square that will be used as the center of a future multi-color motif:

Composed of 13 colors and resulting in 32 ends to be woven in, the multi-color motifs are both exhilarating and daunting to make.

I never know until I get the center square done just how the five colors will interact with each other, and sometimes, despite my best efforts, the resulting square doesn’t quite work. Today, however, I made a center square I can live with.

But my 2012 North Carolina State Fair project is also composed of many single-color pieces, and with the many overcast days of late, that is where I have focused my efforts.

As of August 20 (just ten days ago), I had finished 15 of the 30 large, single-color textured square I will need:

Since then I have continued to work on the large squares and have amassed 90% of the single-color squares needed for this project:

In my crochet fantasy life, I finish the three remaining single-color squares, and have them washed and dried before the rains move in on Saturday, but my guess is that I just might have to wait for the next break in the weather.
