A little thinking is a dangerous thing

This past Sunday, a storm temporarily toppled the World Famous Crochet Museum:

While Shari Elf is working to restore the museum to its previous grandeur, once something has been altered, some small part of it resists all efforts at restoration and remains altered.

This seems to be my experience of the aftermath of the week just past which included the Mineral, Virginia, Earthquake and Hurricane Irene.

The last couple of days I have (when not attending to household duties) been focused almost exclusively on making more pieces for my 2011 North Carolina State Fair project. I was bound and determined to fill the pioneer bread bowl with the squares and rectangles I needed for this motif:

but something happened along the way.

Today, while I did finally get the pioneer bread bowl filled, it was only after I had veered off course a bit, and then a bit more.

Yesterday I was dutifully working on the rectangles and squares needed for this year’s state fair project, when my mind wandered. A larger square, seen in the center of this variation on a Bauhaus quilt block, was where it had wandered to:

I had hoped that this was an isolated episode of wandering thoughts, but today the wandering returned with a vengeance, and my crochet hook completely ignored me and I ended up with a bowl filled with an even greater variety of squares and rectangles than yesterday’s efforts had produced:

Now I need to organize them.

When I began this project I thought I knew exactly what I was going to do, but I am not the same person now that I was then, and while I think as I write this, that I know what I am going to do with this project, the only thing I really know is that I have to have it done by October 10, and I guess that for now, that will have to be enough.
