A lot of people have, by now, heard about Stella (the dog) that P!nk (the singer) helped to save. P!nk made a monetary contribution that made it possible for Stella to have emergency surgery.

As reported at TMZ.com:

P!nk just came through with a canine Christmas miracle — shelling out $5,000 to pay for emergency life-saving surgery on a puppy that had been tossed in the L.A. river and left for dead.

Apparently, P!nk keeps up with what is going on at the local animal rescues in the LA area, and she stepped in and helped Ace of Hearts Animal Rescue when the help she offered was desperately needed.

My own dog, Clooney came from an animal rescue, and I cannot say thank you enough to the good people who did all that they did to bring my dog to me; I was incredibly moved by P!nk’s willingness to help.

So in honor of P!nk’s vigilance, generosity, and her daughter, Willow, I spent a few moments this afternoon crocheting Jan Eaton’s very popular “Willow” square using various shades of pink. It is a motif I have been wanting to try, and the rescue of Stella provided me as good an excuse as any to break out the yarn and crochet hooks to see what could be done.

The first hurdle was finding my copy of Jan Eaton’s 200 Crochet Blocks for Blankets, Throws, and Afghans.

It was not in the section of my bookshelf that I thought it would be in, so it took several minutes to get my hands on it.

Once I found the book, I encountered the next challenge: which of the pinks I in my yarn collection would I use? After much internal debate, I settled on Red Heart Super Saver in perfect pink, petal pink, and baby pink.

With my H hook in hand, I set to work. In short order, I completed the first five rounds which resulted in the floral shape seen here:

Next, I crocheted the sixth and seventh rounds which squared off the design a:

Lastly, I then moved onto the eight and ninth rounds which made the square even squarer:

So this year, in a break from tradition, I am looking forward to a P!nk Christmas.
