Counter clutter

When I woke up yesterday, it seemed that every horizontal surface as far as the eye could see was covered with things I needed to put in boxes and mail out, so when I got started on my crochet, the first order of business was to finish the pink bunny I was working on.

As part of that, I needed to make a pom pom for the tail and remembered that a friend had purchased a pom pom maker she found worked really well. I caught up with her over instant messaging and learned that she had purchased the Clover brand pom pom maker, so I checked online and went to the nearest craft store that had them in stock.

They also had yarn as well, and I succumbed to this rainbow of pastels in a DK weight yarn:

A rainbow of pastel yarns
A rainbow of pastel yarns

After scooping up a skein yarn in each color of the rainbow, I made my way to the “pom pom maker” aisle and found the Clover pom pom makers I was searching for:

Two Clover pom pom makers
Two Clover pom pom makers

It turns out that making pom poms is actually a learned skill, even if you have super awesome pom pom maker, and after my first effort, it was clear I had more to learn:

The Clover pom pom maker and my first effort at making a pom pom
The Clover pom pom maker and my first effort at making a pom pom

Fortunately, my second effort was a lot better, and while the bunny in question probably would have benefitted from a third effort, I instead attached it to said bunny, and packed it up in a box to be shipped.

It wasn’t until the box was sealed and ready to go that I realized I hadn’t taken a photo of the completed piece, and for that, dear reader, I apologize, but having spent most of the morning working with limited success to clear off the counters, I was not about to undo the modest progress I had made.

So the bunny box along with three other boxes to be shipped (one of which included ninety rehabbed crochet squares for Project Amigo) were packed up and ready to go:

I make progress clearing the counters

With more room to do my work, I got back to rehabbing the sixteen — minus one — crochet remnants that I have been working on for several weeks now, and while I didn’t finish them:

Working on rehabbing sixteen crochet remnants minus one

I did make progress.

It would be nice, I suppose, if I had a magic wand that I could wave to clear counters, pack boxes, and make pom poms, but I do my best to live life as it presents itself to me, one stitch at a time.
