One of the things about belonging to a community of crafters — be it it an online community like ravelry, a social networking site like Facebook, or a guild of like crafted persons — is that you will be exposed to ideas you otherwise might not encounter.

This has certainly been the case for me.

This past week, one of my ravelry/facebook/IRL friends suggested that I join her in following a mystery crochet-a-long.

For those readers unfamiliar with the ways of a mystery crochet-a-long, you get the directions (bit by bit) for a project which you then follow, and until some point when the project reveals itself, you don’t know what you’re doing.

So today, as I was only one day behind, I decided to check out the directions.

I would need three coordinating colors of a worsted weight cotton or cotton-acrylic blend yarn and a 4.0 mm hook.

The only cotton yarn I had on hand that met all of the requirements outlined in the directions were these cones of Peaches & Creme from Pisgah Yarn and Dyeing which I picked up last October on my way to the Southeastern Animal Fiber Festival (also known as SAFF)

At the time I made the purchase, I was working on this circle jacket, and I think this influenced my colors decisions that day:

After about an hour of work, and using the constrasting colors of yarn seen along the left to keep track of increases and the number of rounds made, I had this:

I have no idea what this will become, and I don’t know if the colors I am using will make any sense in terms of the context of the project, but I, along with 290 of my cyber-compatriots are attentively awaiting the next set of directions.
