This summer my youngest son had an opportunity take an internship that was out of the immediate area, and now that the academic year is about to start, it was time to get him home to get ready fo the new year. One thing led to another, and soon I was devising a variation on a crochet variation
Of necessity, the weekend involved a lot of travel but not a lot of crochet, and during the time we were traveling, I noticed that my much beloved “practically perfect” granny square bag:
while still handsome, showed signs of wear. I have had a number of adventures with this bag I crocheted in the spring of 2015, but if I am honest with myself, I can see that it is nearing the end of it’s life as a crochet bag, and as the miles went by, I ruminated on what my next bag would be.
As I am in the middle of crochet season working on a project I failed to finish three years running, the new bag has to be simple, and it needs to hold the necessities: my keys, my phone, my kindle, my wallet, and a notebook. It occurred to me as we traveled mile after mile after mile that this variation on Square C-2:
might just be the solution to my crochet conundrum, so using the crochet pattern I wrote for the variation, a 4.0 mm hook, and my traveling stash of worsted weight yarn, I got to work, and while it has a couple of bugs I need to work out, in almost no time, I had this variation on a variation:
When I finally finish this square, I will need to document the new variation, make a template for the future fabric lining, and then get to work on the twelve other crochet squares I will need to finish the bag, buy my hope is that having all of my things in one easy to find place will help me move forward with the state fair project, one stitch at a time.
