Yesterday’s foray into all-that-is-ecru left me itching to get out my yarn scraps and work on the granny scrap poncho that has my attention. After I had gotten breakfast made, the resulting dishes washed, and the dog walked, I was finally ready to start my crochet day started and make the many color decisions that awaited me.

I found that I had stopped in the middle of working the eighth round. Here is one side:

With my 5.5 mm hook in hand and a pile of yarn scraps at my side, the first order of business was to choose what color I would use.

Decision number one: I tried a color which I sort of liked, and then replaced with a second color that I thought I liked better, until I came around to it again, at which point, I determined that it was not as satisfactory as I had first thought, so out it all came, and I began the process all over, this time with the color I had used the first time.

The afternoon wore on with my progress measured in fits and starts, but no clear and easy choices. Eventually, it was time to take the dog out for a romp with some of his neighborhood doggy pals, so I had to set the poncho aside for the day having finished the eighth round and added four more for a total of twelve:

While I was able to envision this project in what amounted to a moment, it’s execution is not going as quickly as I had expected.

Tuesday, however, we are due for a small preview of spring, and I am hoping that the rain holds off long enough for me to spend at least some time outdoors with a pile of yarn scraps, my hook, my poncho-to-be, and the natural daylight that makes the decision making so much easier.
