It’s a good thing that today is the longest day of the year, because I have needed every minute I can get so that I can both make progress on my march toward one thousand rehabbed crochet squares and finish what my most recent crochet project which I think of as yet another “grape fizz extravaganza.”

The progress on my march to one thousand crochet squares was halted a bit because I wanted to get a present for someone I am going to meet, and when I came across “Two of Wands” free pattern for a “French market bag,” I was smitten.

The only thing, I reasoned, that could better than a French market a bag would be a French market bag worked in one of my favorite colors, Red Heart Super Saver grape fizz. So I tracked down some grape fizz and got to work.

In almost no time I had the foundation chain and the first row done:

From there, however, the work was not quite as quick, but by this morning, I was midway through the twenty-second row:

Then, in a burst of focused effort, I managed to complete what remained of the twenty-second row and powered my way through to the thirty-fourth:

Now all I need to do is weave in the ends, block the square, and begin the gathering and crochet the straps.

But the truth is, I had what I thought were better uses for what remained of today’s daylight, and instead of doing things I could do with unnatural light, I got to work doing things that are best done in natural light, in this instance, rehabbing crochet remnants.

In the same box where I found a cache of crochet circles I rehabbed with CraftSmart Value fuchsia, I found some six stitch by six row single crochet squares from this long ago project:

By some, I mean dozens, but I decided to start with just one to see what I could do, and when all was said and done, I was happy with result:

I had combined stitches and textured and colors to create what I find to be a very fetching crochet square, which is good because I have at least twelve more in my future:

and I will work them as I always do: one stitch at a time.
