Making room

I am still in middle of my efforts to downsize my life and as part of that effort, I frequently find myself sorting through bins of things deciding what stays and what goes as I work at making room for whatever is next.

My long time and regular readers may remember that this past December, Mr. Bigglesworth, a cat that belonged to my oldest son and his girlfriend, passed away. It was ten days before Christmas, and Mr. Bigglesworth had been preceded in death by his constant companion, Rick James, just eighteen months earlier. It was a sad Christmas at my oldest son’s house as he and his girlfriend navigated the loss.

It’s never easy losing a pet, and when they depart this world and cross over into the next, they leave a hole in our hearts, and sometimes the only way to deal with the loss is to take a chance on making room in your heart for another pet — or pets — as the case may be, and it is my good fortune to have two new cats to crochet for: Marvin and Willie:

From the photos I have seen, Marvin (the black cat) strikes me as the one who thinks up things for the two of them to do, while Willie (the gray and white cat) looks like a bit of a dreamer:

But the one trait that these two five-month old brothers share is that they are adorable:

After some oohing and ahhing at the adorableness of the new addition to their family, I asked if there were anything I could crochet, and it seems that the ideal sphere I crocheted for Mr. Bigglesworth using yarn scraps was a hit:

And, as luck would have it, as I sorted through bins making room for the things I am going to keep, I had come across a ball of yarns scraps that was just enough to crochet two ideal spheres for two ideal kitty cats:

With the crochet for kittens done and ready to ship out, I then had time to work on the twenty-five granny square remnants that are at the core of my current crochet rehab efforts:

and although the process of crochet rehab is slow, the work I am doing to reduce the number of crochet remnants in my world will help me make room for whatever is next.
