Yesterday, I picked up my mom and we headed over to my favorite local coffee shop, Bean Traders, with the hope that I would be able to finish joining the cookie motifs.
Fortified with a medium cappuccino, I got work while my mom sipped on a chocolate truffle flavored coffee and answered questions from curious passers-by.
By the time I finished the cappuccino, I had also finished joining all of the cookie motifs:
But as can be seen in the above photo, the gaps between motifs are rather large.
I had realized several weeks ago that I was going to have to fill those gaps with something, and while I have been focusing most of my efforts on the cookie motifs themselves, I had also been at work designing a piece to fill in those spaces.
After several misses, I eventually came up with this circle/spiral:
and while I didn’t have time to join them, I was able to get this group photo of all of the pieces that will comprise this year’s state fair project:
There is still a fair amount of work to be done: 36 negative space spirals to be joined, 150 or so ends to be woven in, and a border to be crocheted. No doubt I will encounter some errors along the way that I will need to take the time to correct, but all in all, it is looking as if I just might get this done before the sun sets on Sunday.
