On October 14, 2013, I wrote a blog post titled, How who you meet in 3rd grade can change your life. I had just finished work on Cookieghan 2.0, a project I had made for that year’s North Carolina State Fair.
It was an outgrowth of my first cookieghan project, and while it has been six and-a-half years since I finished work on the first cookieghan, the project continues to inspire and inform my work, and the felted crochet cookie pot holders I am working on to give as a gift are no exception, and while my progress is not as quick as I would like it to be (big surprise!), I did get the two sugar cookie inspired pot holders through one round of felting:
But before I did a second round of felting, I decided it would be most efficient to finish designing and crocheting the second set of cookie inspired pot holders.
Using my notes from the sugar cookie crochet pot holders with just a touch of agonizing over whether I should use the same technique I used in this crochet chocolate chip cookie:
I finally stopped trying to improve the design and crocheted the first chocolate chip cookie inspired crochet pot holder. Satisfied that it a) looked like a chocolate chip cookie and b) that whatever imperfections existed would be erased by felting, I moved forward and made a second chocolate chip cookie crochet pot holder.
Then, shortly before sunset, I photographed them:
Curious as to how much the sugar cookie pot holders had shrunk after one round of felting, I got this photo of all four future felted cookie crochet pot holders:
I am curious to see how these pot holders will turn out, and I will move forward, one load of laundry at a time.
