Sometimes it rains

Last night, my family and I set out for Durham Bulls Athletic Park (in downtown Durham, North Carolina) with high hopes of watching the Durham Bulls play the Buffalo Bisons, but it was not to be.

As the character “Nuke” in the movie Bull Durham notes:

“Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains,”

and last night it definitely rained.

Not the usual sort of July storm we have here where the sky is brilliantly ablaze with lightning and you can feel the vibrations of the thunder.

No, this was a quiet, continuous drizzle that had begun earlier in the day and, if the “minute forecast” of the weather app on my cellphone were to be believed, the rain would be over in nine minutes, then five minutes, then fourteen. At one point (when it was still raining) the “minute forecast” said the rain would start in one minute.

But the rain refused to end. Here is how the field looked when we finally turned our tickets in to get new ones for another day:

Today, as it would happen, was that “another day” and before we left for today’s double header, I managed to get this photo of my 2014 North Carolina State Fair project:

As for the games, I used them as an opportunity to make more of the pieces I will need for the center panel, moving forward one square at a time.
