A word to the wise

If I were to give one world to the wise, just one, it would be this: Don’t.

If you come across me crocheting at a baseball game and think it is a good idea to take the time to comment to me about how the game “must be boring” because I am crocheting, stop yourself.

Trust me, it is not a good idea, and I will not handle it with any grace, because the last person to say that to me used up what little I had left, and there is no more.

Crochet is an integral part of my adult baseball viewing habits.

In fact, it was a Stitch N’ Pitch at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in June of 2014 that got me started, and I have been a devoted fan of crocheting at the ballpark ever since.

So it probably comes as no surprise to my dear readers that last night when we were in the middle of the 3rd inning, I got out the orange based scrap yarn crochet cat with the idea that I would finish as much as I could before the game ended.

Here is where I started:

and here is how far I got when I ran out of things I could do to this scrap cat with he materials I had with me:

But, as fate would have it, there were still more baseball to be played, so I took the yarn scraps I had brought with me and began tying them together in the order they appear in the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. I sorted through scraps, I tied ends, I watched, the game.

Eventually, I had a ball of yarn scraps large enough to allow me to begin work on the eighth and final scrap cat. Here is how it looked early this afternoon when I had completed the third round of the final cat:

Satisfied that the whole rainbow scrap idea was working out at least as well as I had hoped, I continued:

But I also had some unfinished business with last night’s scrap cat, so after gathering more red, pink, and purple yarn scraps and tying those end-to-end, I finally had what I needed to crochet a scrap yarn tail:

So if you see me at a game and want to ask me what I am working on, I’d love to talk. If you want to show me what you’ve made or pictures of what you’ve made, I’d love to see them, but if you want to make a comment about how crochet can only be interesting if something else is boring, move along.
