A finally finished (unfelted) fat bag

This project is an outgrowth of another (as yet unfinished) project; a project, that, when completed, will be the felted first cousin to this finally finished unfelted bag.

I started the bag that began it all with two goals in mind: to use yarn that I already had to make a fulled/felted project I could enter in the 2012 North Carolina State Fair in Department X’s Crocheted Felted/Fulled Item category.

I failed on both counts as I needed to buy more yarn to complete the project and did not finish in time for the state fair entry deadline.

But on the journey to finishing the felted bag, I took a crochet detour which lead me here:

Using my beloved Red Heart Super Saver (my favorite worsted weight acrylic yarn) and a 3.5 mm hook, I made the above bag and then added this snappy (to my mind), hyperbolic closure:

I’m sure I would love using this bag, but as soon as I have the pattern written and have taken all of the photos I intend to take, it will be going to my mom, so I will have to get busy and make the felted version of this project if I want a new bag to call my own.

Update: This design has been sold to Red Heart Yarns and is now available as a free pattern.
