This afternoon, around four o’clock, I finally finished all of the pieces for the center panel of my 2014 North Carolina State Fair project which included these 361 squares:

I was excited at the progress I had made, and when I dragged my youngest son out to the back deck to see what I had accomplished, he expressed surprise that this year’s project was so small.
My state fair projects tend to be large productions that eat time. They disrupt not one my life, but the lives of those I love. As I explained that this was just the center panel and that there were eight more panels of various sizes yet to be completed, he sighed, shook his head, and went back into the house without bothering to hear me finish.
And while none of that takes away from my delight at having finished just over 20% of the pieces I will need for this project, looking at the calendar and seeing that the days are slipping away at an alarming rate, I realize I had better get my hook out and crochet a few more squares before sleep overtakes me.
