In progress

I spent most of Friday running what few errands there were to be run and then getting caught up on the myriad projects I need to finish, and while I don’t think there are actually more projects to be done, now that I am home more than I was, it seems that everything in my house is a project “in progress.”

And my current favorite “in process” project is the future washable crochet purse that I am making with this Crochetachella Square, that I designed with three goals to be met:

One, it must use a lot of colors, because I like a lot of colors.

Two, it must evoke joy, because we need that now.

Three, it must be both supple and firm because it needs to both fold nicely along the sides while firmly holding things in place.

Based on my efforts Saturday, I felt that I nailed both items one and two:

Five crochet granny squares. One completed and four in progress
My progress as of Saturday

And today while I worked out the color decisions that come with making a square that uses nine of your favorite colors, I made moved forward in a modest but measurable way with a stitch here, a round there, and a few more ends woven in and trimmed:

I continued on my merry way, trying one color and then another, until I began to run out of the daylight I need make good color decisions.

I decided that this now was a good time to stop and get an overview of my progress:

I am happy with the way that this piece is beginning to come alive, and as I work through the remaining rounds–one stitch at at time–I will contemplate what color to use to bring these individual multicolor crochet squares together to form a cohesive whole.
