Me and my hook make it to the dozenth round

In the last installment of my journey to a multicolor granny rectangle rug, I had reached the eighth round. Now, two days later, I have made it all the way to the dozenth round, and having reached that milestone, I am beginning to think that maybe, just maybe, I won’t want to put this rug under a bookcase.

I am thinking that I will want to put it in front of the bookcase so that I can enjoy seeing the interplay of colors. If that’s the case, I’ll need to make it much larger than I had planned, but then, nothing about this yarn has worked according to plan.

Over the decade that I have worked to complete a project with the colors I purchased with a “big” crochet rug in mind, I have made these variations on a square:

One a simple single crochet stitch square, another a textured crochet square, and still another a variation on the textured crochet square.

But squares were not the only shape that intrigued me. I also used the yarn to make a hexagon using the popular African Flower motif:

Yet another African flower crochet hexagon for the big rug project

But like the squares before it, I didn’t get to far with the hexagon plan. Despite my efforts to make a big rug, I not only didn’t make it to the finish line, I barely got out of the crochet gate!

But now, this crochet rug seems to have taken on a life of its own, and in the past two days I not only added a ninth round:

But a tenth and an eleventh and a twelfth, which brings me to an over view of the rug as it reaches the dozenth round:

There is still a lot of work to be done, but now it seems, that I have inadvertently stumbled on the project that will become the rug I always thought I wanted.
