This morning I was tempted to wash some laundry and hang it out to dry.
The sun was out, the sky was blue, and the only sign of ominous weather I was able to find was the icon at a website I check for all things meteorological that depicted today as being stormy.
Fortunately for me, I heeded the weather report rather than my lying eyes and contented myself with putting away the mounds of clean laundry that had accumulated from earlier, drier days.
In less time than it would have taken for muslin sheets to dry, dark, gray clouds moved in, there were long, loud rolls of thunder, and the skies opened up.
Soon that weather passed, and we were back to blue skies and sunshine in places, and then, more rain.
Once the clean laundry was put away, I was able to focus on my crochet and put my 4.5mm hook to work.
After putting some time in on the groovyghan, I consulted my squares-to-do for the 101 Crochet Squares crochet-a-long. After much thought, I selected Square 100. I loved the texture of the square and was anxious to get started. I grabbed a skein of Red Heart Super Saver shocking pink and got started.
The square begins with a large, eight-petaled flower that is worked in a spiral fashion.
I found my stitch markers were very useful in helping me keep track of my progress from one round to the other. The work was sufficiently open that my tried and true method of using a strand of yarn to keep track of progress would not have been as effective as I needed it to.
In almost no time, I had finished the central flower:

I found the flower to be very charming and wanted to see how it would look on my favorite beach hat:

Despite the fact the flowers stands on its own, I got out my Red Heart Super Saver lemon and got to work on the the round that frames the flower:

After much internal debate, I decided to use the dark orchid to finish square 100:

I very much enjoyed this square, and am certainly going to look for ways to make use the flower that is central to the design.
I LOVE it as an embellishment on your beach hat! Incidentally, did you crochet the hat?? It’s fantastic!
I didn’t crochet the hat, but I did buy it because it was crocheted and so incredibly awesome. It stays on really well and it kept the sun off my face and neck. It is a wonderful hat.
Nice square!!!! Love the colorway you chose<3
