Square C-2

Armed with my trusty 4.5 mm Etimo hook and my assortment of Red Heart Super Saver yarns, I resumed my quest to complete the-afghan-that-has-eluded-me by working on one of the 10 remaining squares.

While I don’t think I got it exactly right, I did manage a very close approximation which is pictured here:

I made the square as follows

Beginning with any color, ch 4 and join with a sl st.
Round 1: Work 8sc into the ring and join with a sl st to first sc. (8sc)

Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc) and make a dc into same stitch as joining, *work 2dc into the next st, repeat from * 6 times more. Join with sl st to first dc. Fasten off. (16 dc).

Round 3: Using a new color, work hdc in any stitch from the previous round, ch 1, *work hdc in next st, ch 1, repeat from * 14 times more. Join with sl st to first hdc made. Finish off. (16hdc, 16 ch-1 sp)

Round 4: Using a new color, work and hdc in any ch-1 sp, ch2, *work an hdc in next ch-1 space, ch 2, repeat from * 14 times more. Join with sl st to first hdc made. Fasten off. (16 hdc, 16 ch-2 sps)

Round 5: Using a new color, join yarn in any ch-2 sp and ch 3 (counts as first dc) work 2dc, ch 3, 3dc into same ch-2 sp, ch 1, *dc in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, repeat from * 2 times more. ** Work 3dc, ch3, 3dc in next ch-2 space, ch 1, [dc in next ch-2 sp, ch 1], repeat from [ to ] 2 times more, repeat from ** 2 times more. Join with sl st to first dc made. Fasten off.

Round 6: in any ch-3 space *work (2hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc in ch-3 sp ), ch1, sk next st, make hdc in next dc, ch1, **work hdc in ch-1 sp, repeat from ** 5 times more; repeat from * 3 times more. Join with sl st to first hdc made. Fasten off.

Round 7: **Work 2 hdc in ch-2 corner, work 2hdc in next hdc, ch1, *hdc in next ch-1 sp, ch1, repeat from * 6 times more, work 2 hdc in last st of the row, repeat from ** 3 times more. Join with sl st to first hdc made.

Corners:

Row 1: With the right side facing, attach yarn with a sc to the first ch-1 space from the right of any corner.
Sc in the next 1 sc and ch-1 sps. (15 sc) Ch1, turn.

Row 2: Sc first two stitches tog. Sc in next 11 st, sc tog last two stitches (13sc). Ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Sc first two stitches tog. Sc in next 9 st, sc tog last two stitches (11sc). Ch 1, turn.

Row 4: Sc first two stitches tog. Sc in next 7 st, sc tog last two stitches (9sc). Ch 1, turn.

Row 5: Sc first two stitches tog. Sc in next 5 st, sc tog last two stitches (7sc). Ch 1, turn.

Row 6: Sc first two stitches tog. Sc in next 3 st, sc tog last two stitches (5sc). Ch 1, turn.

Row 7: Sc first two stitches tog. Sc in next st, sc tog last two stitches (3sc). Ch 1, turn.

Row 8: Sc next 3 sts tog. (1 sc). Finish off.

Border
Make *(3dc, ch3, 3dc in the corner), evenly space 8 3dc groups along the edge, repeat from * 3 times more. Join with sl st to first dc made. Finish off.

I am starting to think that 2010 just might be the year I finally get this afghan done.
