Friday, when I was running errands, I finally got to the Post Office and picked up the box I would need to send the Project Amigo crochet squares at the best available rate, and today, I finally got the box packed up and addressed.

But before I did that, I organized the five-inch crochet squares and got this photo of them before they were off to a new life:

Then I did the same with the six-inch crochet squares:

With that bit of crochet housekeeping done, I was ready to move on.

What I moved onto was an orange circle that had been in my purse since Friday.

Crocheted with Red Heart Super Saver pumpkin, I had decided to pair it with Red Heart Classic parakeet. The parakeet is similar to Red Heart Super Saver turqua, but with a greater depth and intensity of color which, while slight, is noticeable.

The pumpkin and parakeet together reminded me of a specific time in my life when one of my older sons was four. He had a “go to” power outfit comprised of a Miami Dolphins t-shirt, bright orange shorts, and a pair of gray cowboy boots.

He wore at every possible opportunity, and to this day, those colors both remind me of and take me back to that very specific moment in his life and mine.

So I was, to some degree, attempting to replicate that vision, when I got out my 5.0 mm hook and squared off the circle. By the time I finished the fourth round of the squaring off, it was almost seven-inches across:

Almost.

Sometimes almost is good enough, and sometimes it isn’t.

Obviously, crocheting squares is not brain surgery, but the more squares I have closer to the seven-inch measurement, the easier it will be to put them together, so I decided to crochet one more round.

Using pumpkin to crochet a slip stitch in the back bar loop just below the back loop of the last round of double crochet, the square ended up being closer to seven inches, with a touch of texture:

On it’s own, I prefer the square unfettered by the frame of orange, but the square will not be on it’s own, and while haven’t fully decided on what strategy I will employ to join these squares, I will continue the only way possible: one stitch at a time.
