In which I finish the granny square basket

When I woke up today, there were three things on my to-get-done-today list:

Laundry
Buying summer clothes for my youngest son
The granny square basket

Fortunately for me, the weather cooperated with the first item on my list, and I got all the laundry done before a late afternoon rain came in just long enough to make everything wet and messy.

In between putting loads of laundry into the washer and hanging them out to dry, I worked on the basket.

Here is where I was when I started work on it this morning shortly before 9:30 am EDT:

Several hours and three loads of laundry later, it was all done but the weaving in of ends:

With the crocheting done, my youngest son and I headed out, and after a successful summer clothes buying expedition, I was able to sit down and finish weaving in all of the ends on the basket.

One of the things I love best about crochet is that if I can imagine it, I can make it.

In this instance, I needed a storage basket that measured 10.5 inches deep, and with my trusty hooks and my munificent yarn stash, I was able to make something that not only fits my shelf and suits my needs, but that will bring me a small measure of delight every time I see it.

  1. Throw a small pillow in there and it would make an adorable bed for a cat or small dog…and washable!
