The first nine of the last forty-five crochet remnants

When I rehabbed the first square for Project Amigo in December of 2017, I did not know the nature of the journey I was embarking on. I thought I would rehab a few squares, pack them up, send them off, and call it a day, which just shows that even though I’m old enough to know myself better than that, I don’t. Eighteen months and 954 squares later, I just need to finish work on forty-five crochet remnants so I can all my project done, and right now my biggest challenge is finding forty-five remnants.

I started my search by going out into the garage. I was certain there had to be something somewhere that I could use. The question was, where? Fifteen minutes after asking myself that question, I had not only found a promising bin, I had gone though it and identified these nine remnants as suitable for rehab:

The first step — after photographing the increasingly elusive remnants — was to weave in and trim the ends:

With that task attended to, the next step was to begin the actual rehab.

I wanted to start with the flowers figuring that once I got going with those, the rest would be easy, but I was uncertain about what color to use for the background. I had no particular idea about what would work, but when I got to one of my yarn stash bins, I found this skein of yarn that someone had recently gifted to me, and it was perfect:

Using my trusty hooks, I got to work, and after just a little bit of frogging to get the gauge just right, I was on my way

I would like to (if it is at all possible) get this done by Sunday. It will be a faster pace than any of my recent efforts, but with the August 19 deadline of the New Mexico State Fair looming, I have a lot of crochet to get done, and not a whole lot of time in which to do it, but I’m going to try. But if I really don’t have time to do anything new, then I am going to finish this long forgotten great granny square, and call it a day.

As for crochet, I have some work I need to get to.
